I'm very excited to start these! Depending on how well they come out, I'll probably make a few pair for some friends.

These are 3 of the 4 colors for the fall hat to match my fall mittens and scarf. It's been a real challenge to find the same 4 colors in worsted weight. I did the scarf and mittens in bulky. I know I could have easily ordered all 4 colors from a website, but this scavenger hunt gave me the excuse to keep going into yarn stores. :)

I can never pass up a bargain... I found the 30% off shelf. There was a TON of Noro Shinano, so I bought 3 balls of it for a small tote bag. I was thinking I could make the BoogaJ Felted Bag but when I got home to print the pattern I realized it uses Noro Kureyon, not Shinano. Shinano has silk in it and probably won't felt. So I'll just make a knitted tote and skip the felting. No biggie.

I do have 1 sleeve on the Weekend Warrior and will probably finish it up tonight. I got a lot of great help from Diana at the Tangled Web who is like the queen of seaming.

I promise to post pictures when I finish!!

Decisions

I'm trying to decide if I want to continue to use Blogger for my Knitting blog. Whee!

Well, I didn't seam the Weekend Warrior last night because, well, I'm scared. I don't have enough Point 5 to sew it AND do the ribbing around the neck and I'm not sure what kind of yarn to use to sew it. I think it would be smart to use wool yarn, since the whole sweater is wool. I tried using some Lamb's pride worsted and it just didn't seem to work right. I was getting really frustrated. I think I'm going to bring the whole thing to the Tangled Web on Saturday and do it there, as I will have some supervision.

I did, however, manage to seam Bim's HWBS. It seamed beautifully and I'm ready to finish up the turtleneck and wrap it up to send to her with the Daisy mittens. We were a bit late, and ended up getting there around noon. I found Tabitha despite the NJ Transit waiting area being full of people. We decided to take the LIRR to the Mineola stop and meet her friend Trevor who agreed to drive us to Smiley's Yarns in Queens. We found it fairly easily and spent about 40 minutes browsing the rows and rows of yarn. I had made a list of some items that I'd found on their website and set about finding them. Everything was priced the same as the web, which meant bargains all around. I had planned on getting 16 balls of the Lion Brand alpaca for a sweater for Ken, but decided against it since it was only our first stop and I didn't feel like carrying all that yarn around for the rest of the day... plus it's not like I don't have 30 other projects to knit and also, I can always get it online.

But I did end up buying some Red Heart Soft Baby baby yarn for a crochet blanket for Marcy & Tommy's baby. Depending on how big I make it, there will probably be enough left over to make a blanket for Bimbie & Dom's baby blanket, too. Since I don't know the sex of either baby, I kept the color fairly neutral.

I also bought 3 balls of Bernat Polar Bulky for a scarf & mittens for Ken. I love the blue, green, gray verigation and reminds me of the tartan of Ken's grandparent's Scottish clan.

Also purchased: a set of sized 3 dpns.

After getting back to Manhattan from Long Island we headed down to Soho to check out Purl. Holy teenie tiny store! Plus it had just started raining and there were already like 6 people in the shop. It was crowded and a bit steamy, but there were so many gorgeous yarns to distract me, I didn't really mind bumping into people. After a few laps around the store and being totally overwhelmed by the novelty yarns as well as the prices, I found the sale stash of books/patterns and found a really cool pattern for the Front Crossover Pullover by Muench Yarns for $1.00. I was about to buy that and some $8 awesome smelling hand salve when I spotted the sale bin.

Purchase of the day: 6 balls of Lanas Stop S0L-Lastic yarn for my ChicKami at 40% off. It's sparkly, girly and stretchy. Happiness!! All 6 balls plus the pattern-- $28.

We hit the Spring Street Natural Restaurant for a late lunch/early dinner and then tried to decid if it was worth it to rush over to Downtown Yarns. We decided against it since we only had about 30 minutes to get there and shop and didn't feel like rushing. We saved it for another day.

We hit Anthropologie, Pearl River and a few of the smaller unique shops enjoying the New York-ness.

I left Penn Station at 8:15-ish and was home by 11pm.

I am determined to finish the 2nd sleeve of the weekend warrior this weekend and start assembling it. I mean it *is* September. ;)

Happiness is...

The friday before a 3 day weekend

Getting to leave work early

Payday

Payday + no medical/dental taken out because it's a 3 paycheck month

Payday + expense reimbursements included in the check

day trips to NYC to yarn shop with new friends

----

on the flip side, I'm totally annoyed because when i was driving to work yesterday a small pebble flew out from under the tire of the car in front of me and whacked my windshield and made a little pock mark. These are so fast and really gorgeous. Great for Christmas gifts since they look so luxurious and knit up so fast!

I am also working on a Bernat Boa scarf for Lady Z. She wanted a pair of mittens, too, but I need to buy the yarn for that. I think I'm going to trim the mittens in the Boa yarn like I did for the Daisy Mittens.

Tonight I think I am going to inventory all the stuff I have on needles. I seriously find it less stressful to start a project and get it on needles than have the yarn just sitting sadly in it's zippylock back with the pattern. If I get it started, it's easier to just pick it up and work on it.

Having said that, I want to start the baby sweater for Marcy and the Suki bag for Moi! I also have 2 small evening bags that I want to make for my sisters, since they live in Florida and will never use mittens or scarves. Maybe the evening bags would be good for the train this weekend. Hmm. Something to think about.

In other news, I think Tab and I are visiting 5 yarn stores in New York on Saturday:
School Products & Yarn Connection -- Midtown
Purl and Downtown Yarns -- Soho-ish
Smiley's -- Queens

I think we are taking a pass on String because they have wacky summer hours.

I am hoping Smileys has the same yarn deals at the shop as they do on the web, otherwise, I'll just have to come home and order the yarn I have my eye on.

Yarn I want to buy:
1 Skein Lamb's Pride Bulky in Black for Linda's mittens
1 Skein Lamb's Pride Worsted in Spice & Sunburst Gold for my fall hat
16 skeins of Lion Brand Alpaca in black or navy for Ken's sweater
2 balls of Bernat Chenille in melon & splash for small drawstring pouch bags
2 balls of Berella Polar in any color for mittens

I also need to look for some cool yarn for the Chickami
700 yards of Light worsted or DK weight yarn. I think the Tangled Web had some really cool DK weight yarn so I can always buy it there.

Needles that I need:
US #3 24" or 29" Circular needles
US #3 DPNs
US #6 24" or 29" Circular needles.

I also need some supplies for the 2 classes I am taking this fall, but I am going to wait on those and get them at the Tangled Web.

Get your "Knitty" on

Check out the Knitty.com email and see the word sale mentioned!

I'm so glad to report that Knitty's 1st anniversary issue will be
coming out this September! I'll send you another message to let you
know exactly when, but for now, expect it around the middle of the
month. We want to make this one extra good.

While I'm here, a little shop news. It's time to change the merchandise
in our shop, so if you've been wanting anything that's currently on
offer, you might want to grab it now before it's replaced with
something new! Yes, we think it's time we retired the pink.

Conveniently, Cafepress has a sale of summer-type gear right now. All
sale items are marked at the shop. PLUS, if you spend $40 or more,
you'll receive $4 off your order. Coupon code: GIZMO

These are offers provided by Cafepress, who hosts our shop and makes
all our merchandise for us. We rather like them, since they make it
possible for our little all-volunteer organization to buy server space
and business cards with the profits we make from each item. You can
visit the shop here:
http://www.cafeshops.com/knitty

Okay, that's enough of that. Back to what's left of summer! I bought 2 skeins of Rowan Biggie and 1 skein of Colinette so I can finish my sweater.

And I was so excited about my new yarn, I whipped out a scarf this morning while watching The Majestic.

Happiness all around. :)

Yarn Inventory

Ok- so here's the deal. I have inventoried most of my yarn, but there is loads that I just don't know what to do with. It was either a bargain or just looked/felt awesome and I bought it with nothing in mind. So, I need help. What do I do with some of these yarns? Any suggestions would be most welcome. And now for the slide show:

16 balls of Debbie Bliss Cotton Wool in Cranberry. I was thinking a simple sweater, but would this be good for a chickami? I already have a Cami in this color, though.

I have 2 big balls of this navy blue boucle. I originally thought "hat/scarf/mittens" set, but I have plenty of those and I don't really know anyone who would want that. Is this good baby blanket yarn? What about a baby sweater??

2 full balls of Lion Brand Chenille. I was thinking maybe a little purse?

This yarn was 40% off the regular price. There is a pattern on the label for a pair of footwarmer socks knit on size 11 dpns. 1 skein is supposed to make 2 socks. Is this a good first sock project? Maybe that's what I'll make.

This is some Lion Brand Imagine yarn. I have nearly 3 skeins, but NO IDEA what to do with it. I think I got these in a swap.

Ok- I want to do something excellent with this yarn. I just think it's so gorgeous. It's 2 skeins of rowanspun chunky and 3 (only 2 are pictured) skeins of rowanspun dk. Totally no idea what to make with this luscious yarn.

And another case of having to buy yarn because it was such a great deal. This skein was $6!! SIX! If there was more, I would have bought it. It's 1 skein of Manos del Uruguay. I keep hoping it will speak to me and tell me what it wants to be, but so far, not a peep.

3 full skeins of peace fleece in eggplant. It's kind of scratchy so i don't want to do mittens or a scarf. Maybe for a felted bag and get some gray to stripe in there? Does that sound good?

2 full skeins of hot pink mohair. No idea what to do with this. The Debbie Bliss book i have has a pillow cover pattern for this yarn, but I'm not so keen on that idea.

--------

Ok, for fear of everyone thinking I have no idea what to do with my yarn, here are a few projects on deck:

Yup, you guessed it... it's the Harry Potter scarf in Gryffendor colors. Maybe it will be done by the time the 3rd film is in theaters!

Yup, a scarf. For someone. For Christmas. Details to be sorted later.

This is for a little evening bag I saw at the Tangled Web. It's for someone for Christmas, but she might read this and I don't want to spill the beans.

This is for a great scarf called Fantasia. Also for a Christmas gift. This is my "I'm determined to master Yarn Overs" scarf.

So there you have it. My projects on deck and inventory plus questions. PLEASE, any suggestions are welcome! thanks!

More money spent

I just signed up for 2 classes at the Tangled Web. This fall I am taking The Entrelac Felted Tote Bag class and the 6th session of the Knitters Workshop called "Stitches". Yay! The cost for both classes combined is only $50 and I think that's a pretty good bargain.

I've also had a chance to talk with Mary about working some weekends in the winter and she's up for me starting in October and working weekends as well as teaching the crochet class. YAY for making money to turn around and spend it on yarn.

I'm going up to NYC over Labor Day weekend and heading to Smileys yarns while I'm there. I bought a bunch of beads to make these Beaded Stitch Markers. I told Mary about them and she wants me to bring a bunch in to sell at the shop. Way cool, since they are $14 each in a catalogue that I just got in the mail! I spent about $30 in beads and $19 in yarn. Holy awesome selection at AC Moore. They really have stepped up their novelty yarns. I was amazed at the selection of eyelash, mohair and super bulky yarns. They even had yarn that resembled the Colinette Point 5 and the Rowan Biggie Print!!

Stitch & Bitch Goodness

Saturday was the PhillyKnitters Stich & Bitch. There were 4 of us total, which was nice and quiet. I was able to finish 1 sleeve of my Weekend Warrior sweater as well as some embellishment on the mittens I made for Daisy.

Robbie wants to help with the Weekend Warrior sleeve!

Lotus Pink Daisy Mittens with Electric Blue fun fur edging.
(Thanks to Diane for the generous yards of Fun Fur !)

We also had a Mexican Fiesta! I made Pumpkin and Black Bean soup, Corn and Green Onion Quesadillas, Emily made tacos, we had chips and salsa and vanilla ice cream with cinnamon and yummy Mrs. Fields cookies! It was really good and I don't think I messed up my diet *too* much. :)

Last night I cast on for a black HWBS with a white star on the front. It will either be for Joe & Melissa or Lady Z. I'm excited to see how a star looks, since I've been fairly conservative with hearts. I also want to do another white one with a red cross and a green one with a white Rx on it. I think those would be so cute.

Whilst knitting the first sleeve of my sweater, I determined that I would be 1 skein short to finish my 2nd sleeve and the embellishment around the neck of the sweater. I emailed Cucumber Patch to see if they had any more Colinette Point 5 in Dark Umber in the same die lot and low and behold, they did!! I ordered 1 skein of that and 1 skein each of Rowan Biggie Print in Chuckle and Splash. The total with shipping was only $30!!! Can't wait to get my hands on that and finally finish the Weekend Warrior!

I've been such a good little crafty girl.

Here is the HWBS for Bimbie, finished, but unassembled. As soon as I sew it together, I can do the turtleneck and the duplicate stitching around the neck.

I disciplined myself on Tuesday to stay in and crochet the samples for the class I am teaching in October. I finished all 4 coasters and part of the wine bottle bag.

They were fairly easy after I reaquainted myself with the basics of crochet. I did each coaster in a different stitch: single, half-double, double and triple.

At the Knit-In on Wednesday night, I finished the wine bottle bag, brought a bottle of wine to share and then used it for the display. It received many ooohs and ahhhs once it was complete. I need to stop by the shop and take a picture of it sometime this week.

I also worked a bit on the WW sleeve. ugh... I should have done both at the same time as someone here suggested. I also need to learn how to knit in the round QUICK-LIKE, because seaming is just not my favorite thing in the world.

Tomorrow is the PhillyKnitters Stitch & Bitch at my house. I have to admit, I haven't crocheted in over a year, and I was surprised at how much I had retained. I did forget how to end the piece and "cast off". After searching in my crochet book for nearly 20 minutes, I realized that there is no "casting off" you just cut the end of the yarn and pull it through the last loop. Duh! Tonight is the Knit In at the Tangled Web so I'll finish the wine bottle at the class and just hand it off to her to display.

I'll have pictures uploaded tonight when I am home to FTP. :)

Progress!

I've been happily working on the sleeve of the Weekend Warrior and am about 1/4 of the way finished with it. It's a bit annoying because I have to increase every 6th row, so I have to remember to keep count. Now I see why some grandma knitted sweaters come out with 1 sleeve longer than the other. HA!

I also made some headway on Bimbie's Hot Water Bottle Sweater. I finished the front and started duplicate stitching the heart on it. Duplicate stitch is so relaxing and makes me wonder why I haven't yet picked up embroidery. Hmmm, another thing to add to my "i need to learn to do this" list.

I'm hoping to finish the heart this weekend and then I can sew it all together and do the "turtleneck".

Past Entries from Live Journal

I decided to transfer all of my knitting related posts from my LJ. Everything after this post will be current.

------------
2003-08-05 15:38:00; Is anyone doing this?
Wendy's Charity Mouse-a-thon

There are some mega prizes!!

-------------
2003-08-05 10:21:00; The Weekend Warrior is BACK!
I finished the Front of the Weekend Warrior Sweater last night. Why I put it down with so little to go and then why I psyched myself out that the crewneck was going to be so hard... i do not know. It was easy peasy! AND the front and back pieces MATCH. They are like so perfectly aligned, it's insane, really.

I started one of the sleeves and can implement using my new row counter, as it's one of those things where you increase every 8th row twice and then every 6th row 3 times, or some such silliness that makes me think I forgot how to count.

I keep chanting to myself "just TWO MORE sleeves!" Then I have to learn how to pick up stitches around the neck and learn to use the dreaded circulars. But for now... the FRONT is finished!

2003-08-03 12:39:00
I can't go to this because I am going to this. Why oh why are 2 knitting events scheduled for the same weekend?

I need to get my butt in gear and start the crochet project for the october class. I'm just completely overwhelmed with the amount of things I want to do. I just need to pick a project and stick to it and not keep rotating everything. I NEED to finish the weekend warrior. HELLO, it's called the Weekend warrior... not the 2 month warrior. sheesh.

anyway, here is the pink scarf I started by default on the flight home from California, because I left the pattern for the mittens I had already started on the plane flying out to California.

-----------
2003-07-29 21:07:00; I wanna make these...
... when I get home. I know I have a ton of beads to use, and this is a great and practical way to use them. Some of you knitters might be getting these as gifts :)

Beaded Stitch Markers

------------
2003-07-28 01:50:00; Knitting California Style
After many many positive reviews in the <lj comm="knitting"> community, I vistied The Yarn Lady . Holy overwhelming. The place was HUGE! They had just about every kind of yarn (except brown sheep, I asked), but they had EVERY color of Plymouth Yarns ever, so I opted to buy 2 skeins of a gorgeous heathered pink yarn for a scarf/mittens set for me. I'm seriously considering a cabled sweater in this yarn.

I also saw a few scarves that I want to make. 1 with an amazingly soft eyelash that knitted up like a boa and another one that mixed chenille and eyelash into a really unique scarf. They had a massive sale bin with bags of 10 balls of the same yarn bundled together for 50% off the regular price leftover from their baglady sale. Their website has a pretty good amount listed. Check it out: http://yarnlady.com/bagsale/salepage.htm

I also bought a stitch counter & some knitting pins for when it is time to put my sleeves on my sweater. The stitch counter is for those rows where I have to increase or decrease 5 times in a row, and I always lose count even after repeating the number of the last row with every stitch. It'll help when I have to put my knitting down in the middle of increases and decreases too.

The last item I bought was a clear bag to hold small projects. This is perfect for those 1 skein knit projects. I'm going to put the mittens that I'm working on in it. Plus the fact that it's clear is great for airport security. I currently use zippy lock backs and the needles poke right through the plastic. Not very encouraging when you're trying to pass the needles off a a craft and not a weapon. :)

---------
2003-07-22 09:53:00; My next non-knitting craft project:
I think these would be fun to make as gifts for people:

Shrinky Dink Jewelry!

----------
2003-07-21 09:46:00; Yay.
I have so many projects and not enough time.

I was toying with the idea of taking all my knitting related posts out of <lj user="eustella"> and putting them here, but I think I'll just leave it as is and start with current projects in this space.

Right now I am working on a Hot Water Bottle Sweater (HWBS™) for Bimbie, a scarf, my Weekend Warrior sweater and I am about to start some mittens for Linda. Other projects that I already have yarn for:

1. evening bag for Melissa
2. fall colors hat for me
3. blue soft stripey scarf for me
4. hat from Sara's pattern
5. brown snake scarf
6. crochet project for October class
7. hat and booties for baby boy bryson
8. some sort of baby item for Marcy

i also need to find a sweater pattern form my 16 balls of Debbie Bliss cotton/wool yarn that I bought a few weeks ago. Oh, if I could just have endless time to knit. :)

i did bring my HWBS to knit at lunch today. I need to start remembering to keep it in my bag.

Just getting started transferring my posts from LiveJournal to this new forum.
